Weekend • Open Clay
Once a month, on the second weekend, we run Open Clay — a relaxed, all-ages pottery workshop for local families and our community
Families Session:
10.00–10.30
Adults Session:
11.30–12.30
Adults Session
Open Clay is offered on a “pay per clay” basis to keep it as affordable and accessible as possible. Your ticket includes a set volume of clay to work with and put forward for firing (enough to make a set of two small pieces). Should you wish to make more pieces, more clay is available to purchase on the day.
You can follow along and learn the ancient practice of pinching clay to create a cup, a plate or set of two little vessels – or anything you can think up or idea you come with. From espresso cups and incense holders, to jewellery dishes, miniature sculptures, small bowls, candle holders, tiny plates ––– we encourage you to create something that will become a cherished part of your daily rituals.
Your ticket includes your clay plus glazing and firing for up to two pieces. We glaze all work created in Open Clay in a transparent glaze so your final piece will appear a warm, earthy brown. Your work will be ready to collect around a month later. Or, we highly recommend adding-on a glazing session so you can return to glaze your work and bring it to life.
Children and Families Session
Open clay is best for ages 4+ but if your younger one might enjoy the tactile experience or you have any questions, please get in touch.
Each families session will teach a different, seasonal theme such as imprinting clay with flowers, or making tiny animals however your child is always welcome to create anything they want.
Each person making requires one ticket. If you would just like to watch your child create, then just book one space on the families session. If you would like to make something as well, please book yourself a ticket.
Their ticket includes the firing and glazing of their favourite piece at the end of the session. We glaze all work created in Open Clay in a transparent glaze so their final piece will appear a warm brown. Their work will be ready to collect around a month later.
